About Me
I am currently Assistant Professor of Film Studies in the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal. My ongoing research explores the intersections between audiovisual media, sound studies, and urbanism. My writing has been published in several journals and anthologies, and my research and creative work has been presented at conferences and festivals internationally. See bio for more details.Winter 2012
My Fall semester was a lot of fun, particularly the grad seminar I taught on Vancouver film. Though I'm sorry to see that course go, this semester I'm excited to be bringing Film Sound back to the undergrad roster for the first time since I last taught it in 2006. And I'm continuing with my two sections of Studies in Film Directors, starting the new year off with a bang with five weeks on little known Japanese filmmaker Sogo Ishii. Outside the classroom I'm continuing to prep my doctoral thesis for submission as a book manuscript, working on a forthcoming article addressing sound in the films of Philippe Grandrieux, and preparing a few short pieces for the forthcoming Vancouver volume in the World Film Locations book series. I am also gearing up to begin presenting material from my new Vancouver Soundscape on Film project at the next round of conferences beginning in the Spring. And in my "spare time" I'm going to finish the sound design I began last summer for a new film by Gerda Cammaer on water... Finally, if you're in Manhattan this March, stop by the Soho Photo Gallery for the 14th edition of the Krappy Kamera show which includes a print of my Holga shot NDG Lightsaber #1.Links to My Stuff
