This is a mandatory course for all Fine Arts majors designed to expose students to cross-disciplinary modes of discourse and to create a forum for critical thinking on issues relevant to the visual and performing arts in Canada. One of the main goals of the course is to offer studio-based artists in single disciplines the opportunity to learn what goes on within other disciplines in the university, to engage in discussion with students and faculty in these other disciplines, and to get them thinking and writing critically about their own practice and its position within the larger context of the artistic community to which they belong. I will be doing the course for the sixth time during the 2007/08 academic year. My duties as tutorial instructor included:

• conducting weekly tutorials for two groups of 30 students
• giving lectures, fostering discussion, evaluating student presentations
• assisting in the design of the exams and essay assignments
• evaluating all work produced by the students in my tutorial sections

Murray Schafer designed to bring together Fine Arts students from a variety of disciplines and get them to collaborate on the design and execution of a theatre piece inspired by Schafer’s own work. My duties for this position included supervising tutorials, acting as assistant stage manager during the final performances, and evaluating all students in my sections.
